Brace yourself for a post all about knitting woes. It's not that my knitting has gone wrong, far from it in fact. It's more that I'm STUCK. I can't seem to find my rhythm with my sock knitting and the sweater is almost there but ARE WE THERE YET? No.
I'm really enjoying knitting the Hickory sweater actually and if I could I would plant myself down and just knit till it was finished because it's yummy. I want to wear it on colder mornings over long sleeved tees. I want it to be finished. Yesterday. I'm pretty close but just not close enough.
The socks though? Urgh. I just can't hit a rhythm and having ripped these out 4 times so far, I'm now invested in them enough that I'm being stubborn. I'm bargaining with myself to do two rows a day. So I suspect I'll have socks by about this time next year? I know I should give in and find another pattern I like but I am stubborn. Apparently, so are they.
So while I knit I am pondering my next cast on and I am in something of a dilemma. I want to knit for the Tot now that she's not growing as fast. There just seemed little point before as I wasn't knitting enough to make things before she outgrew them. I just didn't want that heartache. My plan now is to knit ahead but what to knit? Here's some contenders (all images are click through for super fast pattern checks if you want to add them to your queue too):
I'm really taken with this one. I like that it's plain but there are stripes (hurrah) and there are little details like the shirt shaping at the bottom. I generally have a knit crush on Amy Miller right now. I think she's doing great things and I want to try out some of her patterns. The only thing that's stopping me casting on is that it's in sportweight. I have a couple of skeins of sportweight but I can't decide if they go together enough or if I'm going to be panicked about running out of yarn. I could buy more but it seems foolish when I have so much yarn. I could do it in Fingering but then I might as well make this gorgeous sweater from the same collection:
Isn't that sweet? Ok I want to make all the sweaters in this collection. I think I should start with the lighter weight ones while she's small and therefore won't take as long! I also noted these were all available in adult sizing. Iiiiiinteresting. Can we also please take note of the styling: active girl, no frills, no fuss. I LIKE this!
Another close contender is Tama, I think this would be a really useful knit:
Again, I have stash yarn and I might even get to raid the button box and use some things there. Do you know what's stopping me casting on? The colour of the yarn I have. Brown. I might be browned out after my Hickory. Oh I know, I'm just splitting hairs now but I want to LOVE the next thing I cast on!
Another designer I'm totally digging right now. I think this needs to be knit in some gorgeous stash yarn I have from Juno Fibre Arts. I even had the pattern gifted to me by a very lovely listener who totally picked up a sad day I was having. I mean, it's a perfect win right? The sizing is a little off. This one wouldn't fit for a while which is ok but perhaps I should knit this one next?
Then I keep coming back to this pattern:
I love love love this dress! I have some gorgeous Wollmeise colours that would definitely be a break from BROWN. This version above is knit by Dani Sunshine aka Miss Unwind incidentally and I love the knitwear she puts her children in. Seriously, she could make me buy anything if she dressed her daughter in it.
There are other contenders but these are the ones pulling out front at the moment. I keep telling myself I'll decide in a day or two once I've knit a little more. As the sweater works closer to the hem I'm thinking I need to actually sit down, with some tea, ponder Ravelry projects and just make a decision already.
What would you choose?
